5.0     OTHER DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

The students apart from theoretical knowledge also gain experience by doing practical on whatever they have learnt in class. The Junior forms are usually engaged in small scale projects which are done indoors while senior students are engaged in both indoor and outdoor projects. These small scale projects in which students are engaged provides exposure to what actually happens in everyday life.

6.0
     PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The department teachers usually meet daily in the morning to verbally discuss their work progress at different levels. In addition to this the teachers meet with the Head of Department for formal meetings once every month. Some of the things that are addressed to are as follows:

1.         Roles and responsibilities of a teacher.
2.         Ministry of Education Code of Ethnic.
3.         PSC Code of Conduct.
4.         Employment contract and leave conditions.
5.         TVET organization structure
6.         Discipline
7.         Moderation process.
8.         Assessment of internal tasks and projects.
9.         Progressive assessment.
10.       Good organization and record keeping.
11.       Observance of safety in the workshop.

7.0
   CHALLENGES AND SUGGESTIONS

Over the past years it has been observed that there is an improper balance between the numbers of tools to student ratio For a machine to run smoothly it needs lubricants and for a workshop to run smoothly it needs to have all the required tools. The administrators and the school management have provided tremendous support in bringing some tools for the department in the years 2007 and 2008.
After achieving a grand success in all external examinations last year of, 100% pass rates in FJC, FSLC, and FSFE the departments challenges has heightened :

  1. To maintain this 100 % pass rate in all three exams
  2. Obtain quality passes this year
  3. Encourage more students especially females to take the subjects offered in this department.

8.0       CONCLUSION
The department is trying its best to better the current standard and face challenges ahead. Support from the administration, department teachers and TVET section have ensured that the department runs well. The department would like to thank the administrative team for their tremendous support, advice and guidance and hopes for the same in the future.
